Burma: Food, Family and Conflict combines original historical research, family stories and distinctive regional recipes to give a flavour of life and struggles from colonial Burma to contemporary Myanmar. Co-authored by Bridget Anderson, an academic at the University of Bristol, and her brother, Stephen Anderson, a chef and restaurateur in Valencia, Spain, this book makes Burmese history accessible for a general readership. It draws on the stories of their grandmother, the daughter of an English high court judge and the Burmese woman who rolled his cheroots in the Moulmein bazaar, tracing the shifts from colonialism, to resistance and finally independence.
