Starting pupillage at the Bar in 1970, Peter was appointed a Recorder in 1991, took Silk
[QC] in 1995 and went on to have a stellar career as a top criminal defence barrister.
This is the bizarre story of how he ever got to start his legal career.
This is how a little boy from Llanelli in West Wales with a unique zest for life won a scholarship to a Public School; ended up Head boy but narrowly avoided being expelled; won a scholarship to read civil engineering at Bristol then switched to law at Cardiff where he narrowly avoided being sent down; worked offshore in the North Sea in the Oil Exploration Industry as a roughneck on the drilling floor and witnessed the tragic death of a work colleague; went on to work as a Drilling Fluids Engineer in Louisiana and Texas but while in Mexico was wrongfully arrested, leaving that country in some haste …
A compelling read for all, particularly budding lawyers.
