He was fortunate that, towards the end of his school years, two of his influential teachers had aspired to be engineers during the 1930’s depression and had been forced to take up teaching posts. They were instrumental in nurturing his enthusiasm for engineering, motors and motoring.
Starting as an apprentice in Oxford in the 1960’s in the Press Tool Drawing office at Pressed Steel Ltd., he eventually became Manufacturing Engineering Director at Swindon having served in several different companies and positions as the industry morphed through various amalgamations.
He finally retired from BMW in 1999, got bored and set up his own company a year later drawing on the expertise of his old managers and friends. He fully retired in 2010.
