She was reluctant to leave the family sheep farm in the scenic San Sabastian Hills, above the Bay of Biscayne. But she was not surprised that her father refused to listen to her.

He had placed her photo in a Spanish language newspaper, which was seen by Hilario Saenz, a cattle rancher from La Mesa. He had just buried his wife, and he needed a mother for his three children; Hilario Jr. 5, Susanna 3, and Marianna 2.

This beautiful young girl would be ideal.
