By Neville Williams

In this book the author, who was for ten years, a volunteer prison visitor and aftercare worker in the 1960’s and 1970’s, not only gives an insight into real life prisons, prisoners and true case histories, but also offers what he calls an open window progressive reform programme, which if adopted, could lead to some criminals leading a better life.

When this, as the real life cases show, it not only means that one crime will be eliminated but perhaps many more.

In the 1970’s the author wrote a self-help scheme which was adopted by the probation service, local council and later manpower services but it was the first of its kind in Lancashire and appeared on TV. Starting with twenty young people, it was adapted in various forms to employ over one hundred people, some ex-prisoners.
